                  Reading Buddies Programme 2015.
As part of our Literacy programme we have been working hard at our paired reading programme which will run from January to March. Pupils from 3rd to 6th classes are partnered with children from Junior Infants to 2nd classes. 'Serious' reading takes place three mornings each week for fifteen minutes! Great credit goes to our senior buddies who have taken to their role as facilitators very seriously indeed. They have been giving strong encouragement and teachers have been observing steady progress. Great friendships are also being formed.

   Sponsored Walk 2014.
Our walk which traditionally takes place in September was delayed by a week because of bad weather. We set off bright and early on the 10th of October and took our usual route down Brogue, passing Curra and completing the circle by taking The New Line road back to school. (8km) We were delighted to get a photo with bride-to-be Doreen, who was tying the knot two hours later in Ballinakill Church!!! A total of €570 was raised. This is being used for the purchase of books, equipment and general resources in school. Sincere thanks to all for sponsorship.

       May Moran's Gallán.
In September we went on a 'History Walk' to see the famous stone which has been in-situ since 2000BC. It stands at the top of a steep hill and the view can be spectacular on a fine day. Unfortunately a heavy mist fell and we were greeted by some 'over-friendly' cattle. All was not lost, though, as Mr. Fahy regaled us with some great myths about giants fighting and throwing the 'gallán', which landed in that very spot. The giants in 2000BC must have been very strong! Some of the pupils from the senior room reckoned they found evidence of treasure close by.....
